Farewell

Farewell is that time in our careers when we part ways from not only an organization but also from our friends. But we accept this as the world is dynamic and the only constant thing is change.. Sometimes we quit an organization or the other times our colleagues do. There are mixed feelings then and friends/team members bid farewell with a party and a gift, sharing a few comments, and then the life moves on...

For the first time in my career, I am speechless, when its farewell of a colleague who is not my friend or a team mate, but is an integral part of the organization. I know people might think of an HR Manager or a CEO or a director or any other important person who has contributed to the development and success of an organization. BUT NO, its not a known designation in any corporate house...!!! Its an office boy/admin assistant. His name is Pramod. Yes, today was the farewell of an important person who served this organization for the past 12 years. Yes my friends, 12 long years...

I remember, the day I joined this company, the admin personnel was on vacation on account of the Diwali festival. Pramod was the one to ensure that I am comfortable and helped me fill up certain forms. Also, he gave me the lunch coupon so that I feel comfortable on my first day. Every other day, he ensured that the employees get the required documents, support, and help. He used to come to our desks to issue food coupons. He clicked our pictures for the ID card and made us laugh with the number of retakes to ensure we get a nice picture on our batches... :) These are a few instances I recollect.. But there are many more for which people would miss his ever smiling face...

I am proud to be part of such an organization where people today came together to bid him farewell. One and all, right from the VPs to all employees wished him on his last working day in this organization. This shows the importance of that person in the organization and more importantly in the lives of the employees. And he would have still continued here but for some reasons, the organization could not retain him...

From the bottom of my heart, I wish he gets another such organization to work with where he develops an everlasting bond as he did so here. I thank Pramod for making our lives comfortable.
