Do I watch TV alone at home? Then why can’t I watch a movie alone on a big screen?

Watching a movie of my choice on the big screen is a simple wish. Isn’t it?

As a girl, I like a few movies that my partner may not be interested in. So, I try and find some of my friend / relative who is ready to watch the same movie with me. Does this sound very normal?

And just because I don’t find anyone, I let go my simple wish to watch a movie on the big screen!!

But not anymore!!

In India, back in 1980s and 90s, we had theatres and no multiplexes. So girls had a little hard time going for movies even with someone, with the crowd around being nasty at times in the “upper” or even “balcony”. Also, our home environments were strict for watching movies in theatres those days. But today, we live in a world that is much explored and various topics being discussed openly. And thanks to multiplexes for providing us a safe movie watching environment!

A thought that a girl watching a movie on a big screen alone sounds a bit insane even today! But is it so really?

Well! I wanted to watch a Gujarati movie, “Chal Mann Jitva Jaiye” after my uncle shared with me his reviews. I even Googled to check if it is available online or can I download it.

I wished to go and watch this movie with my hubby as he is my usual movie partner. But somehow it didn’t work. So, for the first time, I just talked to him about my wish of watching this movie and if he wants to accompany or I go alone. Not to be mistaken, I knew that my dad wants to watch this movie and I was thinking that I will ask him to join me. But he had already watched it. And being in Pune, I could not find anyone whom I can ask for a Gujarati movie.

So now I decided to watch it alone, for the first time! And believe me, it was a nice, safe, fulfilling experience. I drove to the multiplex, parked there, bought a ticket, a cup of hot cappuccino, and entered the screen. And I had nothing to regret! I enjoyed the movie thoroughly and it was a very normal and enriching experience, given the movie was awesome. It was nothing different than what I experience with anyone else being around.

Not to forget, thanks to one of the over-the-coffee talks in office with my friends when I learned that one of my friends often goes for movies alone. And another friend motivated me to do so when I shared my wish of doing it for the first time!

A simple thing to take charge of your own happiness by fulfilling your small wishes, without harming anyone’s emotions too!
